Cookies (and similar storage) are small bits of data your browser keeps so a site can remember a preference or measure visits. Here is how I use them on this personal site.
Needed for the site to work
A few items may remember simple preferences — for example whether you have already seen the opening loader — or help the server stay stable. These are not used to advertise to you.
Analytics
When analytics loads (via Google Tag Manager on this site), it may set cookies so I can see traffic patterns: which pages get read, roughly from where, and whether something is broken. That helps me improve the writing, not target ads.
How you can control this
